Bird Netting in Sydney

Bird netting is one of the most effective and humane ways to prevent pest birds from entering, nesting or roosting on a building.

At The Bird Man Pest Control, we design and install professional bird netting systems for residential, commercial, industrial and strata properties throughout Sydney and surrounding areas. Every system is custom-fitted to the building, creating a physical barrier that prevents birds from accessing the protected areas.

Bird netting is ideal for locations where spikes or other deterrents alone cannot provide complete protection.

What Is Bird Netting?

Bird netting is a discreet physical exclusion system installed around areas where pest birds are entering, nesting or roosting.

The netting creates an enclosed barrier without trapping or harming the birds. Once installed correctly, birds are unable to reach the protected area and are encouraged to move elsewhere.

We use UV-stabilised, high-strength bird netting selected to suit the bird species and conditions of the site. Different mesh sizes can be used depending on whether the problem involves pigeons, Indian mynas, starlings, sparrows or other pest birds.

For smaller bird species, we may recommend 19mm bird netting to prevent access through small openings.

Where Can Bird Netting Be Installed?

Bird netting can be adapted to protect many different parts of a building, including:

● Loading docks and warehouse awnings

● Car parks and basement areas

● Roof voids and ceiling spaces

● Building façades and recessed ledges

● Balconies and courtyards

● Plant rooms and service areas

● Shopping centres and commercial buildings

● Under solar panels

● Driveway entrances

● Outdoor dining areas

● Agricultural and food-processing facilities

● Areas containing pipes, beams and other nesting surfaces

Each installation is designed specifically for the shape, size and access requirements of the area.

 1. Site Inspection

We begin by inspecting the property to identify the bird species, entry points, nesting areas and the extent of the activity.

We also consider the building’s construction, safe access requirements, surrounding surfaces and any equipment that may require future maintenance access.

2. System Design

We design a bird netting system around the site rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all solution.

The proposed system may include:

- Bird netting in a suitable mesh size
- Perimeter cable
-  intermediate fixings
- Tensioning hardware
- Access zippers or removable sections
- Additional bird spikes or proofing where required

The netting is carefully positioned to close off the complete area and eliminate gaps around walls, pipes, beams, gutters and other penetrations.

3. Cleaning and Preparation

Where required, accessible nesting material, feathers and bird droppings are removed before installation.

Heavily contaminated areas may require a separate bird -dropping clean and sanitisation service. This will be identified during the inspection and included in the quotation where necessary.

Any live birds must be safely removed from the area before it is sealed.

4. Installation

A  perimeter support cable is installed around the area being protected. The netting is then attached and tensioned to create a strong, neat and secure barrier.

Careful attention is paid to corners, penetrations and changes in the building’s structure. Even a small opening can allow birds to return, so the entire perimeter must be properly secured.

Depending on the location, installation may require ladders, scaffolding, roof access or an elevated work platform.

5. Final Inspection

Once installation is complete, we inspect the entire system to confirm that:

- The netting is correctly tensioned
- All perimeter edges are secured
- Entry points have been closed
- No birds remain inside the protected area
- Required access points remain usable
- The completed installation is neat and fit for purpose
